Nato in Foreign policy Strategy of the USA: prospects оf Transformation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in a political Forum

Abstract

The article is an attempt to answer the question about the possibility of the rise of NATO as an organization whose agenda is limited by political issues only for the foreseeable future. Despite increased pronouncing on the need for greater politicization of the North Atlantic Alliance, neither the United States nor their European allies ever deemed «political» NATO as possible option partly due to the absence of its substitution in the military realm. By analyzing present trends we conclude on rising significance of military cooperation in NATO`s framework for US ruling elite as well as on the possibility for the Alliance to strengthen its role as of institution for transatlantic cooperation contributing to global security.
