The Russian Citizens in Finland According to the First General Population Census of 1897 (Population of the Cape of Katajanokka)

Abstract

In the article on the basis of primary archival documents of the First general population census of 1897 the Russian citizens living on the peninsula Skatuden are analyzed. Feature of the found documents is that they contain information on the Russian citizens living in the territory of the Grand duchy Finnish, which, as we know, wasn’t included in census of 1897. Information containing in documents, concerns the military billeted in fortress, and the technical employees of port living on the peninsula. It is known that great scientific interest is represented by primary these censuses schedules. However, as we know, their most part, according to the instruction which was available then, was destroyed after statistical processing. The materials found in RSHA, are very rare exception of this rule.
