State cultural policy problems (based on the example of 1920s Social dance development)

Abstract

The article analyses state cultural policy problems in the 1920s social dance niche.Postrevolutional ideology based on the realistic social culture of the second half of the 19th century, denied dance as an esthetic phenomena, but trying to find its practical usage. The ideology promulgated and supported social dance in Russia in forms, which seemed to be useful from the social perspective: eurhythmics, which was considered as a base for the future man formation, biomechanics, which was thought to increase labour capacity in production. In the second half of the 1920s dance was included into the physical education and national health improvement program; dance was also a method of agitation and propaganda.In spite of the importance of the social experiment for the dance and society connection, the ideology did not succeed because of the denying, persecuting and prohibiting of the traditional social dance as well as replacing it with artificially created genres.
