European and Post-Soviet Economic Integration: Tendencies of Development by 2013

Abstract

The turn of 1990–1992 is clearly recorded in the history of European and Eurasian (post-Soviet) integration. During this period, a new quality of the integration processes launched in Europe in the early 50's and in the Soviet Union in the 20's — 50's was demonstrated. At the turn of the second decade of the XXI century, the issue of the Eurasian Union moved from the category of academic debate into practical implementation. At the same time previous model of integrating Europe has been exhausting itself. Problems are growing across the entire spectrum of issues from the Schengen area to the common budget, from support to Euro to a common defense policy. In these conditions, European experience is particularly important. Understanding of the experience can help to select a more accurate way to Eurasian integration.
