Mythopoetic of A.S. Byatt’s Fairy Tales

Abstract

In the article concept «intertextual» is revealed and one of the aspects of this method - mythological inclusions, is considered. The role and function of mythology in literary fairy tales are analyzed by the example of the fairy tales collection of A. S. Byatt «The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye», and also the comparative characteristics of fairy tales and myths are realized, their features are identified. The semantic analysis of fairy tales variable models, that included in the collection, is provided. All of them are devoted to different issues and based on a variety literary material are written. In this case, the author examines the following questions: why the five fairy tales included in one collection, if it has the diversity of thematic and problematic range, and why the collection called the last tale. Examples of the author’s access to mythology is revealed in every fairy tale of the collection. The mythology in the fairy tale present as a veiled form, and in this case the mythological components merge with fabulous narration, either in their original form present as separate pieces. Also, polymorphism are characterized for the modern prose and intertextual uses vast literary heritage and refers not only to monosource. Thus, neomythology suggests that writers connect a lot of different fragments of myths. Author define s tha t myth s i n th e collectio n have different sources of origin. Among them: Celtic, Sumerian, Greek mythology. In the article conclusion, conceptual moments stand out. It is the reasons for which literary fairy tale refers to the myth.
