Abstract

This article presents the analysis of important threats that Soviet multinational state faced in the beginning of the 80s of the 20th century. Discussion on national problems taken place on the June (1983) Plenum of the CPSU Central Committee is characterized. Special attention is paid to the fight against any forms and manifestation of chauvinism and nationalism Juri Andropov had during his posts of the Chairman of the USSR State Security Committee (KGB), General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, the Chairman of the USSR Supreme Soviet Presidium.
