Aging, Intergenerational Interaction and Employment of Older People

Abstract

The focus of this article is aimed at changes in sociological constructs in which we study the aging and the elderly from understanding a pension as benefits guaranteed by the government to infirm members of the society, to understanding it as an unnatural way of social exclusion forever growing population. The article presents the demographic trends in the Russian Federation, based on the governmental statistics, as well as taking into account the labor market figures. The article also presents an overview of the results of sociological studies in the topic of the people’s attitude to the retirement period of life, to the changes in work behavior strategies in the retirement age. We analyze in more details the hypothesis that training older people to use information and communication technologies can help improve intergenerational interactions and return them to the labor market or becomes a new kind of prestigious leisure. The results of a pilot study on this topic are also presented.
